Круглый стол проходил в августе 2007 г. в рамках междисциплинарного проекта «Преподавая Античность. Фундаментальные ценности в изменяющемся мире», в котором приняли участие известные антиковеды Джон Диллон (Дублин), Леонидас Баргелиотис (Афины–Древняя Олимпия) и Мостафа Юнеси (Иран), а также группа молодых преподавателей и исследователей античности из России, Украины и Узбекистана. Проблема, вынесенная на обсуждение ведущей круглого стола, старшим научным сотрудником Института философии РАН (Москва), переводчицей и исследовательницей позднеантичной философии С. В. Месяц, сводится к следующей дилемме: «Как добиваться аутентичного прочтения текста, не упуская при этом сути философского дела?»

Эта тема будет продолжена в следующем выпуске. Во втором обзоре дается очерк славянской традиции бытования корпуса. Этот текст публикуется по-английски, поскольку до настоящего времени не выходило ни одной обобщающей работы по этой теме на английском языке.

The former outline is in Russian and it will be continued in the next issue (this time focused in the Christian sources of Pseudo-Dionysius), while the latter is prepared in English, since no detailed outline of this subject is available in English so far.

Материалы круглого стола, посвященного проблеме происхождения и сущности гностицизма, который состоялся летом 2007 г. в рамках первой сессии семинара «Преподавая Античность. Фундаментальные ценности в изменяющемся мире». В выступлении Е. В. Афонасина (Центр изучения древней философии и классической традиции, Новосибирский университет)сопоставляются свидетельства ересиологов о загадочной секте «гностиков» и предпринимается попытка оценить их достоверность с точки зрения последующей истории гностицизма. Особое внимание уделяется одному месту из «Стромат» Климента Александрийского (Strom. III 29, 1–2 St), которое до настоящего времени не рассматривалось в этом контексте. А. А. Каменских (Пермский государственный университет) сосредоточился на анализе аутентичного гностического текста, «Евангелия истины», входящего в состав коптской гностической библиотеки. За выступлениями следует запись дискуссии и избранная библиография.

A discussion on the origins and nature of Gnosticism, conducted in the framework of the interdisciplinary seminar “Teaching Classics. Fundamental Values in the Changing World” in August 2007. In the second century A.D. the Mediterranean world underwent a profound change in ethical attitude towards the kosmos and human society, and the change is especially well reflected in one of the most controversial intellectual movement of the Late Antiquity, the so-called Gnostic tradition. Although attempts to draw a coherent picture of Gnosis which have been undertaken so far have yielded no satisfactory result, the basic patterns of thought, commonly labeled as ‘Gnostic’, are reasonably well known. Taken in the broadest sense of the word, Gnosticism is a specific world attitude. In the framework of Judeo-Christian world-view the Gnostics contemplated the world affairs from a global prospective, put them in the context of world history and developed a specific form of eschatology. The discussion opens with a paper by Eugene Afonasin. The author undertakes to interpret selected historical evidence, which can throw the light upon the development of this quite diverse and controversial tradition, including a passage from the Stromateis of Clement of Alexandria (Strom. III 29, 1–2 St), which, surprisingly enough, was not previously treated in this context. The round table continues with a presentation by Alexey Kamenskikh on the Evangelium Veritatis and a general discussion.
