Goal of the project
Assisting the development of Russian higher education in the humanities.
Main objective
Assistance in research and teaching methodology for young university lecturers provided by professors, authoritative in their respective fields. This assistance covered the development of new curricula, plans and programs in various fields of contemporary knowledge in the humanities.
Geography and participants of the project
Young lecturers from the Russian higher educational institutions were eligible to take part in the project.
Professors from various universities of the world who are authorities in their respective fields were involved in this project as consultants.
The following professors and tutors participated in the project (2001-2002):
Prof. Michail Darvin, Department of Theoretical and Historical Poetics of the Russian State University of Humanities.
Dr. Igor Silantev, Deputy Director, Institute of Philology of the Siberian Branch of Russian Academy of Sciences.
Prof. Jef Verschueren, Department of the German Language and Literature of the University of Antwerp, Director of the Research Center of the International Pragmatics Association.
Prof. Vitaly Tselishchev, Chair of the Department of Gnoseology and History of Philosophy of the Novosibirsk State University, Director of the Institute of Philosophy and Law of the Siberian Branch of Russian Academy of Sciences.
Dr. Alexander Shevchenko, Associate Professor of the Department of Logic and Methodology of Science of the Novosibirsk State University, Senior Research Associate of the Institute of Philosophy and Law of the Siberian Branch of Russian Academy of Sciences.
Methodology
Intensive communication in the Internet, with the use of e-mail facilities and the web-site of the project.
Technical requirements for participation in the project
Both young lecturers and professors were required to have Internet access and the ability to work with e-mail and web-browsers.
Types of activity
Individual consultations given to young lecturers on educational research and teaching methodology.
Assisting young lecturers with the preparation and editing of the texts of the curricula, lectures and teaching manuals.
Assisting young lecturers with research and information search, including the search in the Internet.
Development of the project site on the basis of the web-server of the Novosibirsk State University which would have materials on teaching, methodology, as well as reference materials relating to all aspects of the project.
Working languages
Russian and English.
Organizational principles
The organizers of the project held a competition outlining
а) the fields and specialties in which the assistance on research and methodology can be provided;
b) the leaders of the project directions - authoritative university professors from recognized world centers in the respective fields of research;
c) the topical and problematic set of the project fields and orientations.
The results of the project
The end results of the work within the framework of the project were curricula and courses developed by the young lecturers.
