General notes

NSU accepts international students on a contract basis.
-
Applicants are encouraged to seek financial aid from foundations and institutions in their
home countries.
-
Foreign students study in classes with other students. Individual tutorials are possible for
graduate students or students doing individual research
(to be evaluated on a case-by-case basis).

Russian language classes are available for all foreign students, either as an aid to
full-time students or as an individual programme of Russian study
(see Centre for International Educational Programmes).
Admission Regulations
-
A good knowledge of Russian is required (lectures and seminars are given in Russian,
except in special cases of individual research, where English knowledge is sufficient
for enrollment). Students must take the TORFL Russian language test and score 2 or higher
for admission.

TORFL only is required for admission to the following departments: the Humanities,
Foreign Languages, Psychology, and Philosophy.

TORFL and entrance examinations in mathematics, physics and chemistry are required for
admission to the departments of Natural Sciences (biology and chemistry), Economics (mathematics),
Mechanics and Mathematics (mathematics), Physics (physics and mathematics).
At the other departments examination requirements are defined individually by Dean’s Office basing on the documents,
submitted by an applicant.
Required documents

All application materials must be submitted in English or in Russian. The
following materials are required:

Official application form(download);
-
Curriculum Vitae outlining the applicant’s background, experience and skills;

Authenticated and notarially attested photocopy of the applicant’s degree certificates;

Official Transcript of applicant’s university courses and grades;
-
An applicant can submit the documents in Russian or in English.
In all other cases notarially attested photocopies of the certificates and transcripts and their translations
into Russian or English must be submitted.
The translations without notarial sertification won’t be considered;

Two letters of recommendation from persons familiar with the applicant’s academic background
(applicable to those entering graduate programmes only). Letters of recommendation must be
forwarded along with the application in a sealed envelope signed by the recommender across
the flap of the envelope.

Guest students, who come to NSU for one or two semesters to take particular courses under individual study plan must submit:

Curriculum Vitae outlining the applicant’s background, experience and skills;

The transcript, translated into Russian or English verified by their home university;

To get the official invitation (necessary to obtain the visa) one should provide the admissions
assistant with the following:
-
passport copy (sent via fax or scanned and sent via e-mail);
-
place of birth;
-
the name and full address including tel./fax numbers of the university or employer and the position holded;
-
the address of the Russian embassy/consulate where one will take the visa
(when one has the invitation).
The invitation is done by the state authorities within a month.
The University applies for invitation only upon receiving a copy of bank remittance notification,
proving an applicant follows the order of payment, indicated in the contract.
