Arrival in Novosibirsk
By rail: The Novosibirsk Central Station is linked by Trans-Siberian railway to
the Russian Far East, China and the European part of Russia. A typical train
journey from Moscow to Novosibirsk takes two days. From the central railway
station you can take bus number 622. The price of the ticket is 8 roubles. The
duration of the journey is 1 hour. You can also take taxi van number 15. The
price of the ticket is 15 roubles, the journey will take about 30 minutes.
By air: The University is within easy reach of the Tolmachevo airport.
Aeroflot flights to Tolmachevo airport from a range of destinations in Europe,
Asia and the Middle East. From Tolmachevo you can get to Akadermgorodok with bus
108.The price of the ticket is 25 roubles. The journey will take 1 hour. We
advise you to be careful when taking a taxi. If you contact the International
Office in advance you will be picked up. The transportation from the airport
costs USD 25.
Siberian climate
Siberian climate is strong continental climate. Summer is usually warm,
sometimes quite hot with temperature above 30 degrees. Autumn may be cold and
rainy and winter is snowy with low temperatures (even down to about –40 degree
C). Spring comes in April or May.
Postal Services and communications
Akademgorodok is fully covered by the standart GSM network, which means that the
types of mobile phones in use in Europe and many other countries around the
world will function normally here. The central Post office is situated close to
the University providing standard postal services both national and
international, including express mail via FedEx, DHL, etc.
Currency Exchange
You can easily exchange US dollars and Euros. Exchanging other kinds
of currency could be problematic. Banks in Novosibirsk and Akademgorodok,
and some shops accept credit cards (Visa/Master).
Life at NSU
NSU has dormitories with modern amenities (for all students from other places); a sports centre;
after-work sanatorium on campus; summer recreation centre on the beach of the Ob Sea; bases for
practical training in the field; the museum of NSU and the geological museum. There are more than
50 clubs and other student organisations in the departments and in the student centre. Every year
over 20 student events are held.
The dormitories have cafes, dance clubs and Internet centres.
