Our System of Study/Degrees offered
Titles and degrees
There are different academic titles and degrees in the Russian system of higher education,
which should be interpreted as follows: Undergraduate studies:
- Bachelor (B.Sc/B.A.) – 4 years
- Specialist – 5 years
Graduate studies
Basic studies
A university course in Russia lasts 5 years, at the end of which students are awarded
the title of specialist. Some departments also offer a degree called Bachelor after
4 years of study, equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree in the British and American system.
Students who complete such a degree may go on to study for further two more years for
their Master degree. During the academic year the students pass two series of exams
(up to 4-5 exams) at a time. The winter exams take place in January; the summer exams
take place in June. To get into the next course students must have only positive marks
for their exams.
PC - Preparatory Courses 1-2 years
B - Bachelor (B.Sc./B.A.) - 4 years
D - Specialist - 5 years
M - Master of Science/Master of Art - 2 years after B.Sc/B.A.
Pa - Postgraduate student (aspirant) - 3 years after M.Sc/M.A
Pd - Postgraduate student (doctorant) - 3 years after aspirant
