The Department of Foreign Languages was founded in 1999 on the basis of the English Philology subdivision of the Department of Humanities. The Department trains specialists in the following areas:

• Linguistics (theory and methods of teaching foreign languages and cultures);
• Linguistics (translation and translation studies);
• Linguistics (theory and practice of intercultural communication).

Language training is performed by teachers of 5 chairs of the Department (chairs of English Language, English Philology, History and Typology, German Language, French Language) as well as by specialists from the USA, Germany, France, Japan, Turkey and China. The international relations with the USA, Japan, Germany, France and Turkey allow best students of the Department to do their internships abroad.

Since its foundation, the Department has been led by Candidate of Philology, Associate Professor Galina Georgievna Kurkina.
