Department of Humanities

The Department of Humanities was founded in 1962 by outstanding scientists, specialists in Siberian studies, corresponding members of the USSR Academy of Sciences A.V. Avronin and A.P. Okladnikov.

The Department currently trains students in the following fileds:

  • History (with specialization in National History, General History, Archeology, Ethnography);
  • History (with specialization in Archeology);
  • Philology (with specialization in Russian Language and Literature, Russian as a Foreign Language, Languages and Folklore of Siberian Peoples);
  • Oriental Studies (with specialization in History of Asian and African Countries, Languages and Literature of Asian and African Countries);
  • Fundamental and Applied Linguistics.

A solid foundation laid by leading scientists and teachers allows maintaining and developing specific humanitarian knowledge. Students at the Department are trained to search and obtain knowledge. The Department is known for its powerful combination of high culture, perfect knowledge and strong academic relationships between students and teachers. Our graduates work in many different fields which is definitely determined by the high quality of their education. First of all, graduates of the Department are working in research institutes and universities. A lot of them work at secondary and specialized educational institutions, archives, Mass Media as translators and interpreters from the main European and Oriental languages.

The Head of the Department is Doctor of Philology, Professor Leonid Grigoryevich Panin.
