The Department of Mechanics and Mathematics was founded in 1961. Undergraduate and graduate students get trained in the following fields:

• Mathematics,
• Applied Mathematics and Information Science,
• Mathematics and Computer Science,
• Mechanics and Mathematical Simulation.

The main courses are held by outstanding scientists. Apart from attending the courses students have an opportunity to join leading scientific schools even during their first academic years. Both professors and students take an active part in cooperative projects along with foreign researchers from the world’s leading universities. Working in research institutes senior students conduct research in modern fields of mathematics and its applications, in fundamental information science, in fundamental issues of mathematical model construction, in theoretical mechanics issues, as well as deformable solid mechanics and fluid mechanics, in mathematical economics. Such specialization diversity allows students to prepare both for conducting research in research institutes and universities and for practical work in various areas applying the latest information technologies.
