The Department of Philosophy was founded in 1993 to train masters of philosophy on the basis of higher education.

Since its establishment the Department has formed a team of highly qualified teachers and developed strong traditions of scientific and pedagogical activity. The Department both provides students with fundamental education and stimulates their creative potential. As a result, on graduation from the university most graduates have already had a number of research publications.

Over the years of work, more than two hundred Masters of Philosophy have graduated from the Department, every seventh of them has received a Candidate degree, and two graduates have became Doctors of Sciences.

In 2010, the Department launched a bachelor training program and started to enroll high school graduates willing to study philosophy.

The Head of the Department is Doctor of Philosophy, Professor Vladimir Serafimovich Diev.
