The Department of Physics was founded in 1961 by the members of The USSR Academy of Sciences G.I. Budker, V.V. Voevodskiy, M.A. Lavrentyev and S.A. Khristianovich. The Department provides training in a wide range of specialities at two subdivisions: General Physics and Physical Informatics.
Physicists are highly appreciated in modern society for the universal character of their knowledge and their ability to solve problems of different origin. An important feature of the chair training system is the large volume of students’ research work. Starting with the third academic year students conduct scientific research in research institutes of The Siberian Branch of The Russian Academy of Sciences. Thus, by the moment of bachelor thesis defense plenty of students have some research works already published. The Department graduates work in leading research centers from Australia to Canada and from the USA to Japan.
The Department is headed by Professor Alexandr Evgenyevich Bondar, Doctor of Physics and Mathematics, the corresponding member of The Russian Academy Sciences.
