Megaprojects

During the last few years Novosibirsk State University has carried out several large projects.

In 2007-2008, the University has been accomplishing the project named The Innovative Training Programs and Technologies Executed on the Principal of Partnership Between Classical University, Science, Business and Government. This project gave a renewed impetus to the NSU development. The University got ready for the adoption of third-generation state educational standards. A quarter of 25 new graduate programs are designed on employers' request and with their direct participation. The program realization allowed the University to fundamentally reequip itself with modern facilities, devices, computers and multimedia technologies. During the program one of three NSU members could complete further training in Russia and abroad. 12 education research complexes and centers have been founded, with such external partners as 20 research institutes of The Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, 4 institutes from The Siberian Branch of The Russian Academy of Medical Sciences, 15 innovative companies. In short, the project allowed creating modern conditions for high quality education and made a valuable contribution to further development of NSU.

In 2007 the NSU graduates founded the NSU Endowment Fund - one of the first funds of that kind in Russia.

Recently, a business incubator for nano- and biomedical technologies has been founded at NSU, while Novosibirsk Technopark is going to establish an IT student business incubator in the nearest future.

In 2009 NSU became a winner among the Russian members of the University of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, within the area of IT-technologies. Also, the University joined the CIS Network University Consortium of the leading universities of former USSR, developing cooperative master programs in Economics and Business Administration.

In 2010 two of the NSU international projects were supported by European Union. The cooperative project “Technologies of carbon nanotubes in pulsed fiber lasers for telecommunication and sensor appliance” performed under the 7th EU Framework (FP-7-PEOPLE-2010-IRSES) within the framework of Marie Curie Action Program “International Research Staff Exchange” was recommended for financing. Another NSU research project won support within the Tempus program: as a part of the Consortium, NSU won a European grant for the development of a biotechnology training program.

At present two more international educational projects supported by EU are being in progress: the Tempus project “Qualifications framework in ecology and environmental management” and the UNESCO project “Enlarged access to local cultures by means of innovative network model”.

In September 2010 Novosibirsk State University won the competitive selection of innovative infrastructure development programs (Decree of Government of Russia № 219). The program control will be executed by special NSU Center for Innovative Development.

In October 2010 NSU together with UNISCAN innovative company won the open public tender of Ministry of Education and Science of Russia for financing complex projects in the development of high-quality production (Decree of Government of Russia № 218). The cross-disciplinary team of NSU will be granted 110 million rubles for a two-year period to form physical and biomedical base for the development of a revolutionary ABP variations monitoring device by means of latest photonics methods. The work will be based on NSU Education Research Innovative Complex “Laser Photonics and Optoinformatics” that has a strong experimental basis for the most advanced research and development.

In November 2011 the Russian Government supported 40 cooperative projects of Russian universities and world’s leading scientists (Decree of Government of Russia № 220). Three of the projects will be implemented in Novosibirsk State University. Thus, the University has won all the three state megagrants. These results were achieved with 10 just leading universities in Russia.

The construction of a new students’ dormitory for undergraduate, master and postgraduate students has been completed. The nine-floor dormitory is situated in front of the training and laboratory building of NSU, in the University campus. The dormitory can accommodate up to 1000 people on the area of 20 000 m2while the other NSU dormitories accommodate about 300-500 people each. The construction of the second NSU dormitory has already begun.

The University has also started the construction of a new training complex which is going to include 12 training and administrative blocks.

Last year 76 training programs were developed in accordance with the third generation standards. The University expanded its material and technical base along with the information resources. The compliance certification of quality management system was performed according to the procedure of international certification TUN NORD CERT within the standard ISO 9001:2000. More than 600 NSU teachers and researchers were provided with further training and took part in internships in the leading education research centers of Germany, Israel, Italy, France, Japan, China.

The level of research and development activity at NSU has also significantly risen (by 72% against 2009), along with other research figures; more than 20 applications for inventions have been filed, more than 1800 articles in reviewed Russian and foreign magazines published.

NSU took part in the design of several technological platforms, prepared suggestions “Information satellite systems named after M.F. Reshetnyov, the member of The Russian Academy of Sciences” that were presented in expert groups and forwarded for further consideration.

First small enterprises founded by NSU have recently started to work. The innovative activity of the University has risen due to the contests for innovative projects and ideas, the participation in the International Innovation Forum Interra-2010, and the cooperation with the Skolkovo Foundation.
