Atlas of Publications in Economics on the EconLit Basis / Mikhail V. Lychagin, Anton M. Lychagin, and Alexander S. Shevtsov; Edited by Victor I. Suslov. — Novosibirsk: Publishing House of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, 2007. — 400 p. — In Russian and English.
This reference book contains an organization of data from about 486 thousand publications covered by EconLit (www.econlit.org) from 1992 to 2005. EconLit is the largest and most authoritative electronic bibliographic database of scien-tific publications on economics in English. EconLit is created and maintained by the American Economic Association (АЕА). The presented organization of data is based on the EconLit subject classification system for publications, which contains names and descriptors for 20 macro, 130 meso, and 757 micro fields of economic research. The АЕА gave its kind permission to the authors to translate the names of these descriptors into Russian and to publish them in a Russian edition. For the first time the following three variants of the systematization for the indicated bibliographic database and subject classification sys-tem are presented simultaneously in English and Russian in the form of special tables (“maps”) and ranked lists of the alpha-numeric information: 1. Data about the dynamics and structure of publications for the period 1992—2005 (by year and as a whole) on all macro, meso, and micro descriptors, with the micro descriptors in order of decreasing frequency. 2. A set of the most significant English terms in three variants of presentation for the 30 most significant micro fields on which 25-% of the to-tal number of micro descriptors is accumulated. 3. “Maps” of interrelations of all macro, meso, and micro fields (for the period 1992—2005), with the descriptors in order of decreasing frequency. These parameters are calculated from the frequency of the mutual use of subject micro descriptors in records in EconLit. Calculations for macro fields are given both as a whole, and for journals articles, volumes of collected articles, books, dissertations and working papers. Of special value is the identification of approximately 18000 intersections of micro fields (“coordinates of white spots” in the world of economic science), which have not yet been investigated.
The Introduction gives recommendations and examples (based on the experience of NSU and other organizations) of how to use this reference material for economic research and university education. Also, other forms of displaying results and new developments using the EconLit database are presented.
This reference book is intended for economist-researchers, university teachers, PhD, post-graduate and graduate students of economic specialties, and also scientific libraries and publishing houses of scientific and teaching literature on economics. The special permission of АЕА, the holder of the EconLit copyright, is received on publication.
