NSU has entered the top 50 best universities in the world in physics and astronomy

The international agency Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) has published rankings by subject of universities in the world. Novosibirsk State University has significantly improved the representation and positions in the QS rankings by subject and has been ranked among the best universities in the world in 9 areas of training.

Novosibirsk State University now features amongst the world's elite institutions in 9 of the 46 subjects and 3 subject areas featured in this year's QS World University Rankings by Subject.

To compile ratings, the agency has estimated about 19 thousand directions of training of more than 4 thousand universities in the world. NSU in 2017 was marked in 9 subject ratings, which is almost twice as much as last year.

The University shows positive dynamics in physics and astronomy already for several years. Over the past year, NSU has also managed to make a jump of 50 positions and from the group of 51-100 has entered the top 50 best universities in the world.

In the areas of «Chemical Technology» and «Agricultural Technologies», NSU occupies a leading position in Russia. University mathematicians, archaeologists, informatics, chemists, biologists, geologists, philosophers, and linguists have also demonstrated a high level of international competitiveness. For example, three directions of training at NSU: "Archeology," "Mathematics" and "Chemical Technology" are located in the ratings in the range of 101-150, and "Modern Languages" have moved for a year from 201-250 places to group 151-200. "Philosophy" direction stays at the same level.

— The significant strengthening of the NSU's positions in international ratings was the result of the direct work of the University in attracting the best scientists of the Novosibirsk Academgorodok, by expanding the range of international contacts of teachers at the Novosibirsk State University, increasing the number of major international and Russian scientific events held by NSU. The number of international students from abroad, who pay for their education in the NSU has increased. Strengthening the university's position is noted primarily in the seven strategic directions, on which the main resources were concentrated last year of the program to improve international competitiveness, — explains the success of the University Rector of NSU, Mikhail Fedoruk.
