- A head of the state delegation, a Minister of Natural Resources and Environment of the Russian Federation Sergey Donskoy had been making a report for two hours. To support the submitted application he told and showed what a great amount of geological and geophysical work had been carried out by the Russian Federation in the Arctic over the past 15 years, - Valeriy Vernikovsky said. The Russian state delegation includes 19 people working in the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, research institutes and the institutes of the Russian Academy of Sciences. A Head of the Laboratory of the Institute of Petroleum Geology and Geophysics at the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences Valery Vernikovsky and an Associate Director of the Institute of Oceanology of the Russian Academy of Sciences Leopold Lobkovskii represent the Russian Academy of Sciences. - Following the submission of the application, a significant work is going to be carried out in the sub-committee, which will consider each section of the application in detail with the help of experts. Such applications are usually considered by United Nations Comission for two or three years, - Valeriy Arnoldovich said. Russia claims to the Lomonosov ridge, Mendeleev ridge and several other areas of the Arctic, considering them an extension of the Russian continental shelf.
