In this lecture series, I will outline kinematic and dynamic interactions that occur in convergent plate boundaries. Using examples from modern and ancient convergent margins, I will aim at explaining a number of key processes that control subduction zones and overriding-plate deformation. In particular, I will discuss the processes of trench rollback, slab tearing, slab segmentation, ridge subduction, and oroclinal bending.
